cant complain if that was the best offer , its better than letting him go for nothing in the summer

Nashville did better on this one than they did the on the other, overall two even trades that were good for both teams being in the position they are in.

AK46 was used poorly in Montreal for years, and in the past few months, has been marketed terribly. 1 point in his last 12 games? How on earth do you score on a line with Gomez and White, while Darche plays with Pleks? I think he was worth more, but I am not surprised they couldn't get an offer for more with the way they have played him.

My biggest concern with this deal is that the GM who orchestrated this may also trade Pleks or worse before the day is out.

I think it's a good trade.

I think the Preds can be strongly surprise with this move.
Sergei have gained maturity since he left Montreal. Perhaps the 2 brothers will want to work together this time to make a name out of them self. It's not like they don't have the talent to bring good numbers... who knows.

For a 2nd rounder... it's a good bet from Nashville.

Pleks has a NTC and he has stated he does not want to be traded.

Not going anywhere.

Will probably be the 50th pick in the 2013 draft - AK46 was I believe the 10th pick in his draft year - would have been nice to have gotten a prospect instead of a pick where the development process has begun on the player

I wonder if PG actually shopped AK46 or if he just offered him to NSH?

He's got 18 pts since joining the Habs for a total of 27 for the year

Gets some phantom assists, crappy in his zone, shies away from contact.

Same old Kaberle, I'll say...

Even though he piles some assists, he's scarier than Souray in his own end...
Sucks pretty bad I think.

Phantom assists would be the perfect nickname for him. Even when he was with the leafs I would watch him play every game, then look at his stats and say "How did he get all those assists? The only thing I remember him ever doing in these games was losing the puck in the corner of his own zone"

so the habs have now traded sk and ak for a 2013 2nd rounder...man gauthier is (frank)ing terrible...

if bringing in gomez and gionta was his idea and not BG's he is definitely the worst GM by far in the league

Player development doesn't fall entirely on Gauthier.

Habs are a mess...

but trades do and its pathetic how little value the habs are able to get back in trades or how many good players they let walk away for nothing...

if he keeps this up rejean houle >>>> gauthier

U can NEVER say that, Houle Traded away the GREATEST goalie ever in roy for nothing. He also traded away damphousse and turgeon for little as well, I don't believe Gauthier is a great GM by any means but nothing will ever come close to Houle.

That is a relief. Ideally, he is a 2C, but I still believe he can be a 1C with the right wingers. We now have Cammy's salary to work with, and hopefully Gomez's come July 1. Would love to sign him 2 genuine top 6 wingers and watch him excel.

What did you want to get for AK? A 1st rounder? You're kidding yourself.

Selling is about taking the best you can for your UFA's and using those assets in the offseason. They've been shopping AK for the better part of 3 years. If that hadn't gotten more than a 2nd by now, then they weren't going to.

He may have a point considering Gaustad got a first rounder. AK 46 is better than Gaustad.

exactly, and also i consider ak more talented than sk and he is bigger and tougher and sk got 50 points in his 1st season away from montreal and i have a feeling that ak will do the same if not better

and cmon...all we got is a 2013 2nd...not even a 2012!!!

good point...but still gainey and gauthier have been absolutely awful as GMs and the only really good trade has been the craig rivet trade...aside from that most of them have been terrible

Thats it, it was the best offer , so PG had no choice, take the 2nd round or keep him. The value of AK was decreasing quickly due to the way that he was used in the roster. If the management wanted to boost his value they had to use him differently in the last 6 weeks: Play with plecky + more ice time + pk. They didn't market AK very well if their plan was to trade him at the deadline. They lowered his ice time, telling to other team that he was useless for us... With great marketing we would get a first rounder... in the actual scenario a 2nd rounder is an ok trade... not terrible but not great.
